Hi the high frequency Hippo!

Bribie Island State School has welcomed not only a new High Frequency Word Program to the lower years English curriculum in 2015, but also a mascot to accompany it.

In 2015, many of our students and their families would have become familiar with the character 'Hi'.  Hi is a purple hippopotamus, who loves learning words and has assisted many students, our Prep students in particular, with learning new words.  These high frequency words are some of the most commonly occurring words in the English language.  They are words we read and write every day.  These words build a strong foundation in reading.  The words also align to the levelled reading scheme used at Bribie Island State School.
High words are an important part of classroom teaching and learning and they are also included with homework, an important element in strengthening this program.

Hi has had a little makeover to prepare her for the 2016 school year, and we look forward to seeing a lot more of her!
